The Atlanta Silverbacks launched an online promotion today, giving fans the power to select the team’s goal anthem for the 2012 season.
The Silverbacks’ goal anthem, which was “Song 2” by Blur last season, will be played after every goal that the team scores at home this year. The organization is looking for an upbeat song that can inject energy and enthusiasm into the crowd on game days at Atlanta Silverbacks Park.
Former Silverbacks defender and Alpharetta native Tyler Ruthven has signed with the New York Red Bulls of Major League Soccer, according to multiple media outlets.
Ruthven, the son of former Atlanta Braves pitcher Dick Ruthven, started 27 games for the Silverbacks during the 2011 season, scoring one goal and tallying two assists. The University of South Carolina product was named NASL Defensive Player of the Week in July last season.

(March 3, 2012) – The U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF) today formally admitted the North American Soccer League (NASL) as a member to continue operating as a Division 2 men’s outdoor professional soccer league in the United States. The NASL’s candidacy for full membership was approved this morning by a vote of the USSF National Council at the USSF Annual General Meeting in Miami.

Each session, which costs $7 per player ($10 for two sessions), will run from 9:00 p.m. to 11:00p.m., and players can come and go as they wish.
The Atlanta Silverbacks will be hosting a Select-a-Seat event at Atlanta Silverbacks Park on March 10 in coordination with the team’s preseason game against the Charleston Battery, the club announced Wednesday.
The event will kick off at 2 p.m. for season ticket holders only, and will be open to the public from 3-6 p.m.
The Atlanta Silverbacks have signed midfielders NICO COLALUCA and JORDAN DAVIS and forward DAVID SANTAMARIA, pending USSF approval, the club announced Tuesday.
“We’re very pleased to bring back Nico and Jordan and add David to our roster for the 2012 season,” said Silverbacks Director of Soccer Rodrigo Rios. “All three of them are technically-gifted players who know the league well and can add great depth to our team.”
Azteca Atlanta (WUVM) has partnered with the Atlanta Silverbacks for the 2012 season, becoming the team’s official Spanish-language TV partner, the club announced today.
Each Silverbacks home game during the 2012 season will air locally on Azteca Atlanta, with a 30-minute pregame show also being included in the broadcast. The games will be shown via tape-delay on Sunday..........
